Spirit Select 2015 Lacrosse Powers to Successful Summer Season

The Spirit Select 2015 Lacrosse Club completed its summer 2013 tournament schedule and turned in results that cement its status as one of the elite girls’ lacrosse teams in the tri-state region of southeastern Pennsylvania, northern Delaware, and southern New Jersey.

Facing top clubs from throughout the mid-Atlantic in six tournaments held in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia, Spirit Select 2015 finished with a record of 21-4-1. The team capped its successful season by going 4-0 in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Capital Cup tournament in Midlothian, Virginia, where they defeated the Metro 2015 Green squad from Bergen County, New Jersey, 11-6 in their final game. Throughout the season Spirit Select 2015 combined a productive offense with a stingy defense to outscore its opponents by an impressive 264-144. The team’s four losses came by a total of six goals.

“I’m so proud of the way the girls played this season against some very tough competition,” said head coach Jaime Deniken. “They really came together as a strong unit, giving maximum effort and supporting each other in every practice and game. They were determined and focused, and it shows in the record.”

Spirit Select 2015 is scheduled to play in two more tournaments later this year. They will compete in the Mid-Atlantic Showcase at McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Maryland, on November 16 and 17 and at the IWLCA Presidents Cup, which will be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida, from November 22-24. Spirit Select 2015 was founded in 2009 in Unionville, Pennsylvania. Most members of the team have been playing together for several years, pre-dating the establishment of the club. The squad welcomed five new members this season, each of whom made strong contributions to the team’s success. Ms. Deniken is in her third season as head coach of Spirit Select 2015. She is an assistant girls lacrosse coach at Episcopal Academy in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania and played collegiately at the University of Connecticut, where she was named to the Big East Conference’s All-Academic Team. Spirit Select 2015’s assistant coaches are Carey Garvey and Maia Walter, who played collegiate lacrosse at Lafayette College and Georgetown University, respectively.
